So you have fallen in love with a Leather Journal and unsure how to start using it. I am here to inspire you to overcome the pressure of the blank page. Leather Journals/Notebooks can be used for many things, our focus today is journaling. Working out where to start can be tricky, here are some steps that I have used for a long time to get the words flowing.

3 STEPS TO START JOURNALING!

To begin, you'll need to allow yourself around half an hour to start (you can always keep going), a nice pen you like writing with and your notebook. Find a comfy spot where you can write freely.

step 1.

Start by writing about your day. It's a nice way to appreciate your life, you may feel that your life isn't interesting enough, but I'm sure you can find something worth writing about. I like to do a quick recap, a highlight reel really, it gets the words rolling too. (I will write about a page for this.)

step 2.

I then start delving into something different and meaningful. I dont overthink this part, sometimes my heart or head has something it wants to nut out. I start a new page and go with the first things that come to mind. It could be an idea you want to explore, or an emotional response you need to address, often mine can be how I handled a situation that I wasn't happy about. I dont recap it as such, I explore the reason behind it and why I responded in such a way.  This can uncover all sorts of things. Our journal is a safe and private place, you're no longer the sixteen year old who hides their diary, your journal is a place to reflect and develop your inner workings without judgement.

step 3.

The last step is for reflection. What could I do differently in that certain situation, arm yourself with the steps to help you next time. Or how can I get that project underway? I talk to myself as if I was talking to my best friend. I wouldn't allow my bf to get overwhelmed or frustrated over something, so I won't allow myself.

If I have a few things I want to write about I’ll repeat steps 2 and 3 until I feel I have finished.

I have used this process for a long time and find my journaling goes into a very different direction to where I think it would, each and every time.

This is exciting and it inspires you each day, where will I end up tomorrow?

Sometimes I feel like writing something other than about my daily life so I go to my journal prompts for inspiration.

Five Journal Prompts

  1. How do you feel right now? Don’t overthink it.

  2. What can I do to simplify my life?

  3. What brings me genuine joy?

  4. What is one thing you want to overcome and conquer?

  5. What do I need more of in my life?

I hope these steps help you overcome the fear of the blank page.

Happy Journaling
Jess
